On Sunday 24th May 2006 we once again ran in the North East Childrens Cancer Run. This is a five-mile run around the area of Newcastle racecourse, sponsored by Greggs. Greggs were in fact instrumental in my own training, as can be seen from the gut in the picture below! The Children’s Cancer run is now in its 23rd year, and to date has raised in excess of £3 million for Children’s Cancer Research in the UK. It started when a young boy called Chris from the North East was diagnosed with cancer of the kidney and given a 30% chance of survival. His school headmaster, Colin Gregg, a member of the Greggs bakery family, found out about Chris and set up a fund-raising run to help children who were in a similar situation. Chris made a full recovery and since then has taken part in the run every year since and is also a member of the Run Committee. First a picture of all three runners after the
finish (click for larger version): Two pictures of Carter racing to and over the
finish line. Carter shot ahead and left Taylor and I standing, finishing a
few minutes ahead of us... So there you have it! If you sponsored us, please send the cash or cheques payable to Hayl...
